WHAT IS THE BORAN??

The Boran is an African Bos indicus breed with high resistance to ticks, heat and other stresses.

The C.S.I.R.O. and a consortium of cattlemen introduced the Boran from Zambia into Australia in 1990. It is the only purebred African Zebu (bos Indicus) in Australia

WHY?

One of the most important attributes of the BORAN is its ability to transmit hybrid vigour to the traditional beef breeds of Australia (including Brahman and its' crosses). Using BORAN bulls for crossbreeding is the quickest way of improving the commercial potential of beef herds.

Boran cross cows produce high-quality beef faster with fewer problems in the cow herd.

"F1 cows crossed to Boran bulls produced the greatest weight of calf weaned per 100-kilogram cow joined, than all other genotypes in the Belmont evaluation."
